A few months ago, I rekindled my interest in Patchwork and Quilting, deciding to extend my knowledge. I'd only ever made one quilt before - using a 'quilt-as-you-go' log-cabin pattern, and it had taken me, between job and house moves, over 15 years to complete!

Now that I'm semi-retired, and have more time, I wanted to attempt another quilt designed by Kaffe Bassett but using some beautiful Japanese fabrics I'd found available (www.japancrafts.co.uk). The design required precision cutting and sewing as well as quilting the completed patchwork. When my sister visited me last summer and saw what I was proposing to do, she suggested that when I'd completed it, I could make her a quilt for her 70th birthday this Christmas! However, I expected 'my' quilt to take me a long time so I just laughed, saying it would probably take me another 15 years to complete and therefore I would NEVER get one made and completed for her - and by Christmas!

However, even though at that time, I really didn't consider being able to complete 'my' quilt, let-alone one for my sister, I HAVE managed it, and this is the story of the process and completion of what I hope will be a lovely surprise for my sister.
