Next Steps

So the idea of a quilt was developing in my head.....but how to incoporate the Rose Window into a quilt? With the time constraint and the fact that I wanted the Rose Window to be the focus, I decided I would make a fairly simple quilt - simply by adding some borders of the background fabric (which was navy), a few 'fussy-cut' circles from the original Japanese fabric to go in each corner, and bit of gold binding added to create the effect of a stained-glass window )another new technique for me that I'd learnt on Day 1 of the quilt retreat), and 'bob's-your-uncle', it wouldn't take long to do!

Famous last words!

Early October

First step then was to calculate how much extra background fabric I needed - and order it. Having calculated how much I needed, which wasn't a great deal as I still had a little of it left over from the project, I emailed the supplier to ask if she had any more. This was where the problems began - unfortunately, she didn't have any left, BUT she told me she was about to revisit Japan to order more fabrics and she kindly offered to try and get me some of the same background fabric. This was great except for one thing - she wasn't going until the end of October, returning on November 2nd, and so I wouldn't know if she'd been able to obtain any more fabric until that time. I was also a little concerned that even if she was able to obtain more supplies of this particular fabric, the dye might be slightly different and not quite match the original. This made me consider that I might have to have an alternative 'design' in readiness if she came back not being able to get it.

I reckoned that because the design and putting together of the quilt need only be fairly simple, I would still have time to complete it even if I had to change it, so I put it all to one side, got on with completing other projects and waited for November 2nd!
