My Sister's Quilt
Tuesday, 17th November
I decided I would take the Rose Window as it stood down with me to the supplier of the Japanese fabric as I thought she'd be interested to see how 'her' fabrics had been used. I also thought she might have be able to advise on other fabrics to choose if necessary. Even though she had told me she may not have received all her 'new' fabrics by this date, I was eager to choose from her existing range so that I could get on with the contruction of the quilt. Time really was passing by and I was beginning to feel the pressure if I was to complete the quilt in time! The supplier loved the Rose Window when she saw it - and with some discussion and help, we made some decisions on design and fabric.
So I ended up with the following ideas:
Top/front
To create a large square quilt approx 60in x 60in using some gold/orange plain fabric to border the Rose Window and then repeat that border, breaking it up with some gold binding. The idea of my sister's name in Japanese was very well-received and it was suggested that I put it vertically down the right-hand side border. I loved that idea!
Back of quilt
To make the quilt reversible so repeat the 'pattern' on the back but using a large square (the same size as the Rose Window) of patterned fabric including Japanese ladies surrounded by lilac plain fabric which in turn would be surrounded by some different patterned fabric including cranes. The two patterned fabrics had lilac in their design which was why we chose the lilac plain fabric.
I felt I was getting there but there was one drawback - the 'crane' fabric I had chosen was part of the 'new' fabrics which hadn't yet arrived. However, I was reassured that it should have arrived by the end of the week, so I paid for all fabric and the supplier said she would send the 'crane' fabric to me as soon as it arrived.
Sorted........ or so I thought!
